SDF meets al-Uqaydat tribe leaders in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Leadership of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) met on Tuesday with representatives of the US-led Global Coalition and notables from the al-Uqaydat tribe in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.

The SDF Media Center said the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the ongoing events in Deir ez-Zor “particularly concerning attempts to instigate discord among the various components of the region using different names and sectarian slogans.”

In turn, the tribal leaders stressed their support for the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), pointing out “the active participation of tribesmen and clans” within the SDF.

They added that some parties “purporting to represent tribes “aim to “fuel conflict and sectarianism” among components of northeastern Syria that have peacefully coexisted for years.

They urged the Global Coalition to support the SDF “in countering groups associated with the Syrian regime and Iranian militias which aim to sow chaos and confusion in the region.” Moreover, they expressed their rejection of attempts to interfere and sabotage the stability of the region.
